Matthew Sabatella and the Rambling String Band is a group that blends a myriad of 19th and 20th century American music traditions to honor and continue the tradition of Americana.

The group formed in the late 2000s in Hollywood, and uses vocals, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and guitar to borrow from old-time and pre-bluegrass musical traditions. They write songs that explore the mythos and lives of rural Americans across the country. Their current lineup consists of Matthew Sabatella, Jack Stamates, Chris DeAngelis, and Sean Edelson.

They have released three albums in a series titled the Ballads of America. The first follows the paths of ordinary Americans making their way through the late-18th century. The second is filled with famous and common ballads heard across America’s existence and that have grounded the notion of Americana. The last covers the life and legacy of President Abraham Lincoln, exploring his personhood and history through music.

Their dedication to traditional American instruments and genres has placed them in the long line of Americana musicians.
