James Wayne Stafford is a singer, songwriter, and comedian who is famous for his recordings from the 1970s, various tv shows, and his own theatre in which he headlined from 1990-2020.
Born in Winter Haven, he grew up learning multiple instruments and playing in a local band called The Legends alongside Gram Parsons. Jim hit the charts in 1973 with his song “Swamp Witch” followed up by “Spiders and Snakes” in 1974 which hit number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and number fourteen on the BBC Top 50. Jim continued to write and record throughout the 1970s.
His knack for comedy propelled him to be a television star, performing on various tv shows throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He landed his own six-week show titled The Jim Stafford Show in 1975. Writing music for his records and shows, he also wrote for the animated Disney film The Fox and the Hound on the tracks “Lack of Education,” “A Huntin’ Man,” and “Appreciate the Lady.”
His brand of country music is a collection of acoustic instruments that background his humorous and playful vocals which entice the audience.
